Dessert for breakfast? Hell yeah! This dreamy Mint Chocolate smoothie is like having a glass of indulgent ice cream for breakfast, but made healthy! A fresh and silky green smoothie loaded with nutrients and wholesome ingredients, chocolate chips and a simple chocolate sauce, that tastes like your favorite ice cream flavor.

Delicious and healthy mint chocolate smoothie

It’s green, it’s healthy, but it does NOT taste like a regular healthy green smoothie! This mint and chocolate chips smoothie is a real treat by itself! It tastes like the classic mint chocolate ice cream flavor but in a healthy, lighter and very nutritious version. It’s fresh, satisfying, not too sweet, and has the right amount of chocolate.

This mint chocolate smoothie is composed of a smoothie made with only natural and whole ingredients. It contains a great amount of nutrients, fibers and healthy fats, that makes it a perfect healthy snack or breakfast. Drink this smoothie fresh to enjoy all the benefits of all the food!

It comes with a simple chocolate sauce, made with only 3 ingredients, for an even more sensational taste!

Ingredients you will need to make this smoothie

This mint chocolate smoothie is made with only fresh and whole ingredients for a healthy, balanced and nutrients rich snack or treat.

  • Banana – I recommend to use frozen banana for a thick and silky smoothie. Use ripe but not over ripe bananas for best result.
  • Kale – To add greens and fibers to the smoothie. You can also use spinach.
  • Mint – I recommend to use fresh mint leaves. But if you can’t find fresh mint, add a few drops of natural mint extract.
  • Almond butter – Adds richness and healthy fat to the smoothie. Use natural unsweetened almond butter. You can also replace it with any nut or seed butter of your choice.
  • Maple syrup – Is a great natural sweetener. You can also use agave or any liquid sweetener, or even replace with one soft date. Adjust the quantity of sweetener to your taste.
  • Milk – You can use any dairy free milk, like almond, oat, soy, coconut, rice or cashew.
  • Chocolate chips – We add a spoon of chocolat chips in the smoothie for more texture and a delicious chocolat flavor. You can also use cacao nibs if you prefer.
  • Cocoa powder – It’s the main ingredient for the chocolate sauce. I recommend to use good quality cocoa powder, without added sugar. Even better, use raw cacao powder if you have!

Variations for a cold mint chocolat smoothie

Use frozen bananas

You can use either fresh bananas or frozen bananas to make this smoothie. However I would recommend frozen bananas for two reasons: they help to get a thicker texture AND make the smoothie cold, which is quite pleasant in summer and to accentuate the fresh effect of the mint. To freeze your bananas, peel and slice them before storing in a freezer bag or a container, and place in the freezer until they’re hard.

Blend with ice cubes

Another option to make a cold mint chocolate smoothie is to blend with a handful of ice cubes. It works but the consistency of the smoothie will be a little different. You can also prepare ice cubes of almond milk to replace the milk in the smoothie.

Chill the smoothie

Last but not least, you can simply prepare the smoothie as indicated in the recipe card below and place it in the fridge for about 30 minutes to chill. For optimal nutrition, don’t leave the smoothie more than one hour before consuming as the nutrients it contains deteriorate quickly.

FAQ

How can I replace the banana?

You can substitute the banana with other fresh or frozen mango or pineapple. You can also try with half fruits and half steamed then frozen veggies, like cauliflower or sweet potato. Avocado is also a good option to replace banana in this smoothie, as it adds creaminess and pairs well with the other flavors.

Can I make this smoothie nut free?

We’re adding one tablespoon of almond butter in this smoothie for more creaminess and healthy fat. If you’re allergic to nuts, you can substitute with tahini or sunflower butter, half an avocado, or a scoop of coconut cream.

I can’t find kale, how can I replace it?

You can easily replace the kale with fresh spinach or other greens like Swiss chard, lettuce, celery, collard greens, …

Units Scale

  • 1 cuil. à soupe de beurre d’amande
  • 2 cuil. à café de sirop d’érable
  • 250 ml de lait végétal
  • 1 cuil. à soupe de pépites de chocolat

Instructions
