A easy, healthy and delicious smoothie

Coffee and chocolate is a match made in heaven and it is possible that this Mocha Smoothie gonna replace your regular coffee latte! It’s thick and creamy thanks to the frozen banana, perfectly sweet, satisfying and packed with delicious chocolaty and cold coffee flavors.

This Mocha Smoothie is very easy to prepare and ready under 5 minutes, what makes it perfect for a nourishing breakfast, a light dessert or a sweet afternoon pick me up. It only requires 6 simple ingredients and a blender. All you have to do is to blend everything together and you’re rewarded with the best chocolate coffee smoothie ever!

Not only this Mocha Smoothie is incredibly delicious, but it’s also super healthy. All you need to make it is banana, cocoa powder, date, coffee, almond milk and ice cubes. Only 6 simple and natural ingredients! So this smoothie is dairy free and added sugar free. For even more nutrients, don’t hesitate to add a spoon of your favorite superfoods, like chia seeds, ground flax seeds, hemp seeds or a tablespoon of almond butter or plant-based protein powder for extra proteins!

Tips to make the perfect Mocha Smoothie

This recipe couldn’t be simpler! All you have to do is to place all the ingredients into a blender and mix to get a rich and creamy Mocha Smoothie. That’s it! However, here are a few tips to help you make the perfect Mocha Smoothie.

  • Both a blender and a food processor work for this recipe, but if you have the choice I recommend to use a high-speed blender. A good quality high-speed blender is the perfect equipment for smooth and creamy smoothies. It is fast, convenient, easy to use and to wash. A food processor also does the job but it generally takes a bit longer and often leaves some chunks.
  • Use very ripe, yellow and spotty bananas for best flavor and natural sweetness. You can use either fresh or frozen banana, but I can only recommend frozen for a thick and super creamy texture! To freeze banana, simply slice and arrange in a freezer bag in a single layer to prevent large clumps. Place in freeze overnight until hard.
  • This Mocha Smoothie is meant to be thick and creamy. So you don’t want to add too much liquid, just enough to blend. So I would recommend to add the almond milk gradually just until you get the right texture. However, if you prefer your smoothie runnier, feel free to add more milk!

How to enjoy your Mocha Smoothie Bowl

To be honest, this Mocha Smoothie is already amazing on its own! It is rich, full of delicious flavors, thick and creamy, what make this a perfect nourishing snack. I love to enjoy it as it is and drink with a straw for a healthy afternoon snack or instead of my regular coffee. You can also add a spoon of plant-based protein powder to make a perfect post-workout smoothie!

But don’t get me wrong, there is nothing better than an overloaded smoothie bowl to start the day! It’s fresh, nourishing, tasty, packed with good nutrients, easy to digest and super quick to prepare. My favorite kind of breakfast. But the best part is definitely the toppings! Here is where you can be creative and just go for your heart’s desires!

Topping suggestions

When it comes to smoothie bowl toppings, there is NO RULES. Just go for what you love, what you’re craving on the moment, or simply what you have in your cupboards. But even if you can’t really go wrong with toppings, there are a few tips to help you build the best smoothie bowl.

  • Even if it’s tempting, try not to go TOO crazy with the toppings. Usually 3 to 4 toppings is way enough. Try to choose ingredients that are consistent in flavors and that compliment each other.
  • Think about textures when you choose your toppings. Add something creamy like nut butter, something crunchy like seeds, nuts or granola, and something chewy like dry fruits.
  • If using fresh fruits, try to choose seasonal fruits. It’s the guarantee of delicious and sweet fruits at a good price. And it’s good for the planet!
  • My favorite toppings for this Mocha Smoothie Bowl include: a spoon of tahini for the creaminess and intense flavor that goes perfectly with chocolate and coffee, my homemade crunchy nutty granola, coconut flakes and fresh seasonal fruits!
  • For this smoothie as for all other recipes, don’t hesitate to taste and adjust the seasoning! Some love their smoothies unsweetened, some a little more. Same thing for the flavors and spices. So once blended, taste your smoothie and if necessary feel free to add an extra date or a tablespoon of maple syrup for more sweetness, more cocoa or vanilla.

Description

This easy Mocha Smoothie Bowl tastes like your favorite chocolate mocha coffee latte in the form of a rich and creamy smoothie. Ready under 5 minutes with only 6 simple ingredients, it’s a delicious and healthy way to start your day!

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 frozen banana
  • 1 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 pitted date
  • 1 shot of cold espresso (or 1/4 cup cold coffee)
  • 2 tbsp almond milk
  • about 3 ice cubes
  • Optional: 1 tsp vanilla extract

Toppings suggestions

  • Homemade granola, check my favorite recipes
  • Tahini, almond butter or peanut butter
  • Fresh seasonal fruits
  • Shaved chocolate, cacao nibs

Instructions

  1. Add the frozen banana, cocoa powder, pitted date, cold coffee, almond milk, vanilla and ice cubes to a high-speed blender and blend on high until perfectly smooth. Add a little more almond milk for a runnier consistency.
  2. Pour the smoothie into a bowl and garnish with all your favorite toppings.

Notes

  1. For extra flavor, I’ve used my favorite KoRo Organic vanilla flavored coffee. If using plain coffee, you can add a teaspoon of vanilla extract in your smoothie.
  2. You want this smoothie to be thick and creamy so try not to add too much liquid. Pour almond milk gradually and add just enough to blend.
  3. If you prefer your smoothie sweeter, add 1 tablespoon of maple syrup and blend.
